Report on the 2019 750 Motor Club Historic Plum Pudding Trial
trial Report 750 Motor Club Historic Plum Pudding
The Historic Sporting Trials Association is calling all owners of Dellows and pre-1953 trials cars, to take part in a new form of historic sporting trials designed to suit these cars.
The current Motorsport UK Historic Sporting Trial Car Formula state that cars must have been built in accordance with the RAC National Trials Formula between 1953 and the end of 1970 to qualify for the Historic class. They are permitted to have independent rear wheel braking, known as fiddle brakes.
The proposed new Heritage class is for vehicles, such as the Dellow, which conform to the original RAC Trials Formula but are not equipped with fiddle brakes, have limited steering lock and easily damaged bodywork.
When, in 1953, the RAC introduced the National Trials Formula it outlawed some radical post-war specials. Many were probably scrapped, but if any still exist, we would like to hear from their owners and encourage them to bring the cars out again. A number of owners of the trials Allards are planning to join us.
The aim of the Heritage Sporting Trial is to provide an enjoyable event for owners of these early cars. The hills will be non-damaging and suitable for cars that do not have fiddle brakes.
As a first step, the Midland Trials Car Club in conjunction with the Dellow Register and HSTA are planning a stand-alone Heritage Sporting Trial for pre-1959 open trials cars not equipped with fiddle brakes. The event is set to take place on wide open hillside near Crewkerne in Somerset over the weekend of the 13th and 14th June 2020.
On Saturday the organisers will be offering gentle, light-hearted and sympathetic guidance on the joys of trials driving to those who bring their cars but may not want to compete in the non-damaging main trial on Sunday.
The event also celebrates the 70th anniversary of the production Dellow. It is hoped all Dellow owners will support this fun event to make this the largest gathering of Dellows in recent history.
